What is single stage paint failure?
The colour itself is letting go of what is under it. Your paint has no clear coat to fail first, so when it lifts, all of it lifts. The cause is nearly always underneath. Poor preparation, an old repair, or moisture and rust coming up from the metal.
What kind of repair does it need?
Stripping back to paint that still sticks, then painting. The edges of a lifting area keep lifting, so the repair is usually bigger than it looks. Decide what goes back on. Modern clear coat paint lasts longer. Single stage suits an older car if keeping it original matters to you.
Cracked or failed paint cannot be painted over. Every crack shows through the new paint again. So it is stripped back first, which is what makes this more than a normal panel job.
What to do next
Go to a panel shop, not a detailer. This will not improve with waiting. Bare metal starts to rust, and rust turns a paint job into metal work. Ask what they will strip back to and why. If originality adds value to the car, say so before they quote.
