What does chemical damage look like on car paint?
Not knowing what it was matters less than it seems. The shape of the damage narrows it down. If it ran down the panel with soft edges, it points to a solvent, and that is the expensive kind. If it stayed where it landed as a flat, dull patch, it is surface damage, and that is the cheap kind.
What kind of repair does it need?
One of two jobs. Surface damage is a machine polish by a detailer. Solvent damage that changed the colour is a panel respray. If it was acid and it reached bare metal, rust treatment is added too.
If it ran down the panel and changed the colour, it is a panel shop. If it stayed where it landed and only went dull, it is a detailer.
What to do next
Stand back and look at the outline. Did it run, or did it sit? Drip lines with a colour change inside mean a panel shop. A dull patch where it landed means a detailer. See the detailer first. If they cannot remove it, that tells you it is a panel shop job.
