What is paint edge lifting?
Paint coming off in a small area that starts at a chip or an edge has usually been forced off. Water gets under the edge of the chip. Then a pressure washer held too close pushes it up from underneath.
What kind of repair does it need?
Painting the affected area. Lifted paint cannot be stuck back down. The edges are sanded back to paint that still sticks before anything goes on.
The panel is prepared, the colour is matched and sprayed, and clear coat goes over it. Metallic and pearl colours are harder to blend than solid colours. Aluminium panels need different preparation from steel. Both add to the job.
What to do next
Keep the pressure washer back from chips, edges and old repairs. Seal chips when they happen, not when they spread. Ask the shop to check the other chips at the same time, because they are next.
