What does egg do to car paint?
Egg damages paint mainly through what is inside it, not the impact. As it dries, it etches into the clear coat. Egg white is alkaline, and heat and time make it worse. Left in hot sun, it can etch through the clear coat into the colour. A car washed straight away usually keeps its paint. A car egged overnight in summer often does not.
What kind of repair does it need?
It depends how deep it etched. Etching in the clear coat is polished out. Once it reaches the colour underneath, the panel is painted. Egg across several panels is priced per panel.
Etching in the clear coat polishes out. Etching that reached the colour does not. Often nobody can tell which until it has been cleaned and polished.
What to do next
If any is still on the car, soak it with warm water and lift it off. Do not wipe, because dried shell dragged across paint scratches it. Get it looked at soon. If it was deliberate, photograph it and report it before cleaning. Ask your insurer whether it is covered as malicious damage.
