What causes scratches on car glass?
The most common cause is the wipers: worn rubber, or grit caught in the blade. That draws an arc that follows the sweep. Grit rubbed in while cleaning, or a car wash, can also scratch glass. A curve is usually the wiper. Straight lines are something else.
What kind of repair does it need?
Glass polishing by a specialist, with a compound made for glass. It removes light and medium scratches. Deep scratches that catch a fingernail cannot be polished out without distorting the glass. Then the windscreen is replaced.
Polishing glass takes glass off. Past a certain depth it starts to blur your view. A glass specialist will tell you which side of that line you are on before starting.
What to do next
Go to a glass polishing specialist, not a panel shop. Do not let anyone use a paint polishing machine on it. Heat can crack the glass. Replace your wiper blades at the same time, or the arc comes back.
