What is badge ghosting on car paint?
There is nothing wrong with the paint where the badge was. The badge shaded that spot from the sun for years while the rest faded. So the outline is the original colour, surrounded by paint that has faded around it.
What kind of repair does it need?
A machine polish across the whole panel. The faded paint around the outline is cut back to match. Fade can be partly polished out. If the fade is too deep, the panel is painted.
Polishing cuts the surrounding paint back to match. If the difference is more than the clear coat can give, the panel is painted instead.
What to do next
Book a detailer, and make sure they polish the whole panel, not just the outline. Working on the outline alone does nothing. If it will not blend, the panel has faded a long way, and it is a paint job.
