What is overspray on a car?
Also calledPaint Overspray
A gritty film across the top surfaces, and on the glass and trim too, is someone else's paint. Spray drift from a nearby job settles as a fine mist and dries as thousands of tiny specks. It lands on everything, which is why the glass is gritty as well.
What kind of repair does it need?
A clay bar treatment, and a light machine polish if it has been there long enough to stick. Your paint is fine underneath.
The deposit comes off with a chemical. That is most of the job. Any mark it leaves is polished off afterwards. Nothing is repainted.
What to do next
Take it to a detailer, not a panel shop. Think about where the car was parked. If a contractor was spraying nearby, raise it with them. Photograph it before it is cleaned off.

During the spray painting process, liquid paint is atomized into tiny particles which can float hundreds of feet through the air from the painting area.
