What is bore water staining on a car?

Bore water around Perth often carries dissolved iron. Sprinklers spray it onto whatever is parked nearby. When it dries, the iron rusts and leaves orange or brown streaks on the side facing the sprinkler. It looks like rust in your paint, but it is a deposit sitting on top.

What kind of repair does it need?

Chemical decontamination, not repair, if you catch it in reasonable time. An acid treatment dissolves the deposit, a clay bar lifts what is left, and a light polish clears any haze. Deposits baked on summer after summer can eat into the clear coat. If that has gone too deep to polish, the panel is painted.

Class of work Chemical decontamination and a polish for the haze, or a refinish where it has etched in.

Detailer work. Say bore water, or hard water staining, when you book. Detailers in hard water areas see it all the time and carry the right chemical.

What to do next

Book a detailer, not a panel shop, and say bore water or hard water staining. Detailers in hard water areas deal with it all the time. Then fix the cause. Move where you park, or adjust the sprinkler, or it comes back every summer.
