What is a colour mismatch on a car repair?

Also calledMismatch fading, Off colour, Off shade, Poor Colour Match, Wrong colour

Paint that matches in one light and not another is a failed colour match. The paint may have been mixed from the paint code rather than matched to your car. Factory colours change with age and sun. Metallics are harder again, because the flakes must lie the same way too.

What kind of repair does it need?

Respraying the panel with a properly matched colour, and blending it into the panels beside it. When a whole panel is painted, the colour should be blended into the next panel.

Class of work Panel refinish, blended into the panels beside it.

Blending the new colour into the panels beside it is what makes a repair invisible. That is why this costs more than one panel. A quote that stops at the panel edge is the job that caused this.

What to do next

If you paid for this repair, take it back. A colour that only matches in some light is not a good result. Ask them to spray a test card and check it against your car in daylight. Ask if they will blend into the next panels. If not, expect the same result again.
