What is fisheye on car paint?
Also calledCissing, Cratering, Fisheyes, Poor wetting, Saucering, Silicone Contamination
Small round craters, as if the paint pulled away from something, are fisheyes. They are also called cissing. Silicone is the most common cause. It comes from waxes, polishes and interior sprays used near the spray area. It is a preparation fault.
What kind of repair does it need?
The affected paint is removed, the panel is properly cleaned of silicone, and it is painted again. Silicone sticks firmly to paint and takes extra effort to remove, so the cleaning is the step that matters.
This is a workmanship fault. The question is not what it costs you. Paid work must be done with care and skill, so it belongs back with the shop that did it.
What to do next
Name it as fisheye or cissing when you go back. It is a preparation failure and paint shops know it. Paid work must be done with care and skill. One honest check: if the car went through a detailer or a tyre-shine wash between the paint job and the fault, that muddies who caused it.
