What is insufficient paint coverage?
Also calledInadequate Colour Coverage, Poor Coverage, Poor Covering, Poor Hiding, Poor opacity
Colour that looks thin or patchy, or lets the primer show through, is poor coverage. Not enough colour went on. It shows most in hard-to-spray areas, lower panels and sharp edges. Some colours, like bright reds and yellows, need more coats than others.
What kind of repair does it need?
More colour, which means preparing and painting the panel again. You cannot just add a coat, because the clear coat is already on top.
This is a workmanship fault. The question is not what it costs you. Paid work must be done with care and skill, so it belongs back with the shop that did it.
What to do next
Look along the panel at a low angle in bright daylight, over where the repair was. A soft patch that is slightly darker or lighter is the primer showing. Paid work must be done with care and skill. The shop knows how many coats it put on. Ask them.
