What is matte paint wear?
Matte wears as it is touched, washed and leaned on. The texture wears down in those spots, so the panel goes patchy rather than dull. It usually starts around door handles, on the boot lid where hands push it shut, and along the sills.
What kind of repair does it need?
Painting the worn panels. No treatment brings worn matte back, because the texture itself is gone.
Matte and satin cannot be polished, so there is no cheaper step to try first. The panel is sprayed again, with the sheen checked on test panels first. It needs a shop certified for matte work.
What to do next
Do the worst panels first. Slowing it down matters more than repainting it. Use matte shampoo, wash by hand, no automatic washes, no wax, no polish, and a sealant made for matte paint.
