What is paint blooming?
Also calledBlushing, Milkiness
A milky or cloudy haze in otherwise smooth clear coat is blooming, also called blushing. It is moisture. It happens when moisture condenses into the wet paint, often in cold, wet or humid weather.
What kind of repair does it need?
Slight blooming can be removed with polishing compound once the paint has hardened. Worse cases are rubbed down and painted again. The layers underneath may also be affected, which can cause blistering later.
Depth decides it, and either way it is part of work you already paid for. If the fault is in the clear coat, it is sanded flat and polished. If it is in the colour underneath, the panel is painted again.
What to do next
Have it looked at in daylight, not under shop lights, which hide it. Paid work must be done with care and skill. Ask them to try polishing a small section first. If it lifts in one area but not another, the part that stays needs repainting.
