Do paint protection film scratches self-heal?

Paint protection film can have a self-healing top layer. Light scratches and swirls are dents in that layer, not missing material. Heat from a heat gun or warm water brings it back. Older and cheaper film may not have this layer, and a mark in it stays.

What kind of repair does it need?

Try warmth first. It costs nothing and it answers the question. Park in direct sun for a few days, or pour warm water over the area. If the mark fades, the film has healed. If not, that section of film is replaced. Your paint is not involved.

Class of work Nothing, if the film self-heals. That section replaced if it does not.

Self-healing film closes light marks with heat. Sun or warm water is often enough.

What to do next

Sun first, then a detailer with a heat gun. If neither works, ask the installer which film was fitted before you agree to anything. It may be a warranty question. Either way, the film took the mark so your paint did not.
