What is solvent pop on car paint?
Also calledBoiling, Gassing, Solvent boil, Solvent Popping
Tiny pinholes or open blisters in the clear coat are solvent pop. A coat went on before the one under it had dried enough. Solvent got trapped under a surface that had skinned over, then forced its way out. Each pinhole is where a bubble burst.
What kind of repair does it need?
Sanding smooth and painting again. It cannot be polished out.
This is a workmanship fault. The question is not what it costs you. Paid work must be done with care and skill, so it belongs back with the shop that did it.
What to do next
If you paid for this respray, take it straight back. This is a workmanship fault, not wear. Paid work must be done with care and skill. If someone else is fixing it, say solvent pop by name so they sand and refinish rather than polish.
