What causes stains on car paint?
A mark you can see but not feel, with no chips and no change in shine, is a stain. Something soaked into or stuck to the clear coat and coloured it. Leaves, grass, fertiliser, red dust, dye from a car cover, or a drink dried in the sun can all do it.
What kind of repair does it need?
A chemical treatment first, then a light polish. Light stains sit in the top of the clear coat and come out. Stains that will not come out mean the panel is painted.
Light stains sit in the very top of the clear coat. Telling the detailer what caused it gets the right chemical first time.
What to do next
Try a proper wash with car shampoo before you pay anyone. Some stains are just film that was never washed off. If it stays, a detailer is the right call. Tell them what caused it, because different stains need different chemicals.
